The Samsung Lions have suffered a major setback in their quest for the title.
Outside pitcher Albert Suarez has been sidelined with a ruptured left calf.
After the 12th game of the season against LG at Lions Park in Daegu on June 6, a Samsung representative said, “Suarez underwent an MRI examination and found about 12 centimeters of damage to the gastrocnemius muscle of his left calf,” explaining that it is expected to take about four weeks to recover.
Suarez, who started the game, threw 15 pitches in just three at-bats before being pulled with two outs in the first inning.
He gave up a single up the middle to top hitter Hong Chang-ki after a nine-pitch full count. However, he induced a slider to shortstop Moon Sung-ju on two pitches. He threw a four-pitch changeup to No. 3 Kim Hyun-soo, who lined a single to right field that sailed past the first baseman.
That’s when he ran into trouble.
A grounder to first base is hit, and as he instinctively goes to cover the base, he feels pain in his left leg.
The trainer, translator, pitching coach, and catcher Kang Min-ho gathered on the mound. They checked on him for three minutes. Suarez tried to keep throwing as he stepped on his leg, but it was determined that he was in no condition to continue. 먹튀검증
Suarez walked very slowly back to the bench, seemingly uncomfortable as he stepped off the mound.
Suarez was taken to the SM Radiology Department for a full examination, including an MRI. The examination was delayed due to the holiday. Without Suarez, Samsung lost 4-7 in a bullpen day game.
More than the injury, Suarez’s one-month absence hurt. The Lions rebounded with an 8-5 record in the second half. Just a week after the return of Baek Jeong-hyun made the starting rotation complete, they were hit with another major setback in the form of Suarez’s injury.
