‘Romano HERE WE GO!’ Chelsea to sign US international MF for £33.5 billion

U.S. international midfielder Tyler Adams (24-Leeds) is joining Chelsea (England).

“Chelsea are set to sign Tyler Adams from Leeds United (England) by paying his release clause of £20 million,” European soccer transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano said on his personal social media account on Tuesday (June 10). His trademark “HERE WE GO!” signaled the move.

Chelsea have concluded talks with Adams’ club Leeds and have reached an agreement. Personal agreements are in place and a medical is expected to take place shortly.

Adams had a contract option that triggered a £20 million release clause in the event of Leeds’ relegation. Leeds were relegated to the Championship last season after a poor 19th place finish in the English Premier League (EPL). Chelsea, who had been monitoring Adams, were quick to add him to their squad.

Adams first made a name for himself in 2019 when he moved from the New York Red Bulls to RB Leipzig in Germany. Primarily a defensive midfielder, he has the defensive intelligence to play right fullback as well. He has the ability to build up from the back with a great deal of work rate and defensive commitment.

In 2022, Adams burst onto the EPL scene by joining Leeds. Replacing Calvin Phillips (28), who left for Manchester City (England), he was a solid performer in the Leeds midfield, but an injury in March ended his season prematurely. He also led the U.S. national team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, wearing the captain’s armband.

Chelsea spent all summer trying to sign Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, 22, but with Brighton holding out for £100 million, the Blues looked elsewhere and landed Adams.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will host Liverpool in their EPL opener on Sept. 14 at 0:30. 메이저놀이터
