As expected of a spear vs. spear matchup, the game was intense from the start. Both teams tried to play quick forward passes and strong forward pressure. There were fierce battles for possession all over the field and quick turnovers. However, the decisive goal did not come easily.

The goal came from a set piece. Yeongdeungpo Gonggo took the lead in the 21st minute of the second half when Son Seung-min’s left-footed kick from a corner kick was met by central defender Sun Ye-jun with a high header.

With the rain falling heavily, Yeongdeungpo Gonggo played a steady defense to secure the win. Shinpyeonggo tried to attack from the height by bringing 190-centimeter Jung Mah-ho, who played as a defender, to the front line. They didn’t give up until the end, and even goalkeeper Ham Seung-joo was involved in the attack on a set-piece opportunity in extra time, but failed to score the equalizer. In the end, Sun Ye-jun scored the winning goal and Yeongdeungpo Gonggo was crowned king of the tournament.

This is the second time Yeongdeungpo Gonggo has won both the Presidential Gold Medal and the Wangjoong Wangjeon, which are directly organized by the Korea Football Association, in the same year after Pyeongtaek Jinwi FC last year.
