South Korean high jumper Woo Sang-hyuk, 27, made history by winning gold at the World Athletics Federation Diamond League Final.
Woo won gold in the men’s high jump with a leap of 2.35 meters at the 2023 SEGA Athletics Diamond League Final at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, USA, on Sunday (July 17). Woo finished ahead of Norbert Kowielski (Poland) and Jubon Harrison (USA), who both cleared 2.33 meters.
Woo became the first South Korean athlete to reach the final. He defeated Nachin Kim for the title and earned $30,000 (approximately $40,000) in prize money.
The Diamond League has a total of 14 tournaments a year. Based on the ranking points accumulated in 13 events, the top six players compete in the 14th event, the “King of Kings” Final. This year, Woo Sang-hyuk made it to the final in fourth place and eventually won the gold medal.
