World No. 1 pair Shin Yoo-bin (Korean Air) and Jeon Jeon-hee (Mirae Asset Securities) defeated Chinese Taipei to reach the quarterfinals of the Women’s Table Tennis Doubles at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.
Shin Yoo-bin and Jeon Jeon-hee upset Chinese Taipei’s Chen Tsui and Huang Yi-hua 3-1 (9-11 11-6 11-6 11-4) in the Women’s Table Tennis Doubles Quarterfinals at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games on Tuesday at the Archer Canal Sports Park Gymnasium in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China.
Hsin-Yu-Bin and Chun-Hee shared the women’s doubles silver medal at the World Championships in Durban, South Africa, in May. In June, they won the WTT Contender Lagos in Nigeria.
In July, they lifted the trophy at the WTT Contender Zagreb Croatia. At the World Championships, they completed a ‘miracle at the table’ by defeating the ‘world’s best’ pair of China’s Sun Yingsha and Wang Manyu 3-0 in the semifinals.
Their international success this year has earned them the No. 1 ranking in women’s doubles. They will be challenging for the title at the Asian Games, where they defeated ‘double-armed’ Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals to secure the bronze medal.
At the Asian Games, there are no third- or fourth-place matches for players who fail to reach the final. If an athlete or team does not make the final, they are awarded a bronze medal.
Yubin Shin defeated Chen Tzu-yu 4-1 (6-11 11-9 11-7 11-7 11-3) in the women’s singles quarterfinals later in the day.
Following their singles victory, Yubin and Chen faced off again in doubles. The pair didn’t get off to a great start. They dropped the first game to Taiwanese Taipei, who played solid defense.
However, they then showed their ‘chemistry’ and came back to win the match.
At 9-9 in game one, Shin Yubin-Jeon Hee dropped the first game after giving up back-to-back errors. After regrouping, the pair came out firing in game two. Trailing 4-6, the duo attacked boldly and scored consecutive points. With the score at 7-6, the duo took game two with a finishing attack from Jeon Jeon-hee.
With the match leveled, the duo easily won game three 11-6. Chen Tzu-wei was looking to avenge her loss in the singles, but as time went on, the duo’s chemistry improved and there were no gaps in their offense or defense.
In the end, the duo easily took the fourth game 11-4 to advance to the quarterfinals.
They will now face Japan’s Miwa Harimoto and Miyu Kihara in the final. Cruising to gold, Shin Yubin and Jeon Jeon-hee will face a fateful Korea-Japan matchup in the quarterfinals.메이저사이트
